When you set up your DeskTime subscription, you’ll be asked to enter your billing details. During this step, you’ll be able to add a VAT or Tax ID, whether you’re subscribing as a company or as an individual.
Whether VAT is applied depends on where your company is registered and whether a valid VAT/Tax ID is provided.
When is VAT applied?
VAT rules differ by region. Here’s a simple overview:

- If your company is based in Europe and you provide a valid VAT/Tax ID, VAT will not be added to your subscription.
- If your company is based in Europe and you don’t provide a VAT/Tax ID, VAT will be applied according to your country’s official VAT rate.
- If your company is located outside Europe, VAT is not applied, whether or not you enter a VAT number.
- If your company is registered in Latvia, VAT is always applied, even if a VAT number isn’t provided.
How to add a VAT/Tax ID number?
You can add your VAT or Tax ID in your DeskTime billing section:
- Go to Settings–>Billing
- Under Billing details & payment methods, look for Do you have a VAT (Value Added Tax) or tax ID number?
- Select Yes, I have a VAT or tax ID number
- Enter your VAT/Tax ID number and save changes
